On this past Easter Sunday I was out with my boyfriend. We wanted to kill some time before going to a family dinner, so we headed to the mall. Well -- turns out the mall was closed! Apparently, we weren't the only ones who didn't expect that either, there were a lot of other people showing up only to find out it was closed for the entire day. After finding that out and being pretty disappointed, we had absolutely no clue what to do to kill an hour or two. On the spur of the moment, we started talking about me going back to the piercing and tattoo parlor in Salem, NH. We debated between two new piercings. It was either my eyebrow or my tongue, by the looks of it.
Craig offered to pay again, as he's done for my snakebites and some plugs for my ears. But it was still up in the air which I wanted to get done. On a whim, I opted for my tongue. I knew it was going to hurt, but for some strange reason I didn't worry about it.
It was the same procedure as my two lip piercings, swish the mouthwash, sit down, and before I knew it, it was all done. But there was a catch this time! He put the bib on me, and asked me to hold it up underneath my chin, and stick my tongue out. He didn't make the dot that a lot of piercers do for placement, but I didn't question it. I trust him almost fully, especially because of my experience with him piercing me.
When the needle went through, it was pretty painful for me. I kept my eyes open because I'm a real stickler for needles. When I looked down, I saw my tongue turn gray in shock of the piercing. I drooled a lot, and I mean a lot. It was actually a pretty disgusting sight! (much more disgusting than the actual piercing)
It's been a few days since I got it done, and my tongue's still pretty swollen. I've been drinking a lot of slimfast and soup broth, it's still pretty difficult to eat solid food for me because the bar is far too long for my mouth, despite the swelling. I actually have a tiny mouth, and I can't wait for it to heal so I can replace the long bar. Let me tell you, it's so hard watching your friends eat delicious, unhealthy food and you're still too much of a baby to eat it too - so you're sitting there alone drinking a chalky slimfast and popping multi-vitamins. I would kill for something good to eat, haha.
As for my experience so far though -- I really enjoy the piercing itself. The pain was awful, but I feel like after the first couple weeks it will all be worth it. Soon enough I'll be able to eat and talk normally again and I'm excited. Everyone I've heard from says that they love it. I even have some friends that have removed it after the first week before their swelling went down because they couldn't take the heat..and they say that they miss it now!
I love my new piercing, especially in combination with my other ones. I figure that these first hard couple of weeks will be well worth the stuff I'm readily enduring.
